Embracing Kimono Weekends

Spring is on the way, and with it comes a change in wardrobe. In my latest vlog, I share my weekend kimono routine, featuring a stunning vintage Oshima Tsumugi—an unworn gift with its temporary stitching still intact.

Oshima Tsumugi is prized for its craftsmanship, made from mud-dyed silk threads woven into a lightweight yet durable fabric with a beautiful sheen. As the seasons transition, I find myself alternating between warm winter silks and breezy cotton kasuri kimono.

But wearing kimono isn’t just about tradition—it’s about comfort and personal style. While I love browsing kimono magazines, finding the right fit at my height can be a challenge. Lately, I’ve been thinking about learning wasai, the art of kimono-making, and starting with a yukata might be the perfect first step.

In this vlog, I also talk about seasonal kimono choices. With summers getting hotter, I’ve noticed more people wearing yukata earlier in the year. Rules are important, but I believe listening to your body is just as crucial—if it’s warm, why not wear something lighter?

For today’s look, I tied a simple karuta obi, though I’d love to practice more obi styles. Plus, with our barn renovation starting soon, taking moments to appreciate small joys—like stumbling upon an old magazine—reminds me to slow down and enjoy the process.
