The Prime Minister’s House Tour

In the small sea side castle town of Hagi in Western Japan there is beautiful traditional house built by Tarou Katsura. A third time Prime Minister and decorated General, Tarou Katsura built this house in 1909 on the site of his former childhood home.

Having relocated to Tokyo this house was completed near the end of his life. Located along the Aibagawa river, the river was diverted into the garden as a water feature to splendid results. What the house lacks in size, it makes up for in the details. Situated in a quiet small neighborhood surrounded by a lucious garden is definitely a retirement fit for an ex-prime minister. I suspect he enjoyed his time here.

Hagi city is best acessible by car. Access is limited to local trains, and there nearst bullet train station is an hour away. But perhaps, that is why it is worth the trip.
